High performance modified asphalt is a modified asphalt, which has high softening point. Its concrete product has good anti rutting flow deformation ability, bending recovery, and crack resistance. There are many overloaded vehicles on China’s traffic roads. In summer, the rutting damage is very likely to happen. With the gradual increase in number of private cars, traffic jams often occur in big cities. Slow traffic and overloaded vehicles will have adverse impacts on the city road.

Pinpointing our country’s road conditions such as big traffic flow, many overloaded vehicles, high road surface temperature in summer, long endurance time caused by traffic congestion and repeated road repairs, we introduced advanced technology from Japan, to develop the high performance modified asphalt. The asphalt is good at anti-overloading and anti-fatigue. At the same time, it also has good anti cracking performance and bending performance in low temperature, which can respond well to our country road’s overloading condition. At the same time, its superior anti fatigue crack resistance in low temperature can ensure the pavement has longer service life, reducing the maintenance cost of the road during its whole life cycle. It is a very good choice for the construction of a long lasting roads and preserving society’s resources. High performance modified asphalt has been applied in the repairing of Jialiu Expressway. All the indicators meet the design requirements. This is the first time the asphalt is used in the country, which will open a new era for the market and improve China’s overloaded road conditions.

On rainy days, cars tend to slide and skid, and splash and spray causes poor vision. These are the main reasons of traffic accident. Reducing accidents in rainy days, improving the pavement surface and reducing splash are the key issues. At the same time, lowering the noise caused by the contact between pavement and tires is an important part for improving the city’s environment. After researching, we successfully created the drainable and low-noise pavement, which used high viscosity asphalt. This kind of asphalt has good aggregate caking, which make aggregates bond tightly. What’s more, its softening point and viscosity are high, and it is stable even in bad weather. Thus, this kind of asphalt is very suitable for construction, and it can maintain long-term stability. Pavements constructed by high viscosity asphalt can reduce the splash and spray, especially those caused by big vehicles. Therefore, drivers enjoy clearer vision on rainy days. The situations of sliding and skidding are also reduced due to high skid resistance. Moreover, pavements constructed by high viscosity asphalt can reduce the pavement reflection from cars’ lights and the noise caused by the contact between pavement and tires. High viscosity asphalt is extremely suitable for constructing pavements, normal roads and channels, particularly the highways in the city as it can greatly reduce the noise and improve the slippery conditions on rainy days.

Concrete recycling technique utilizes large quantities of industrial and construction waste during concrete production, such as concrete aggregate, mechanism sand, steel slag powder, FGD gypsum and fly ash, to replace 30%-50% gravel, river sand and cement. Tongji University and STEC started to develop the technique since 2006. During 2010 World Expo, recycled concrete was applied to the Shanghai Eco House in the UBPA, in co-operation with Shanghai Research Institute of Building Sciences Group. This project ranked top in the domestic construction and was close to the international standard. The technique was given the Shanghai Resource Comprehensive Utilizing Prize in 2011, and Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award in 2013. The application of the concrete recycling technique established a high-efficient method to deal with mass industrial and construction waste with low energy consumption. This helps the city turn the waste into precious mineral resources.

Currently, STEC sets its own recycling aggregate production line and construction waste consumption spot to deal with the waste on site in large demolishing projects, or collect and handle the waste together for small-and-medium demolishing projects. Through establishing a city construction waste information cloud platform, we strive to build an industry chain cycle, synthesize collecting of concrete waste, producing and processing recycling aggregate, and green recycling concrete as one application.

Desulfurization gypsum plaster mortar consists of mineral admixture, gypsum, glass beads, fine aggregate, water retaining agent, retarder, and other additives. It’s powder material mixed in a factory in certain proportion. The product has a good anti-crack protection effect, high cohesional strength, and good water retention. The product meets the Shanghai local standard of "Desulfurization Gypsum Plastering Mortar Application Regulations”. It’s the ideal and new green environmental-protection material for building’s interior wall leveling treatment, which can ensure a smooth wall, and prevent the wall from cracking and hollowing. The product has been successfully applied to the Pujiang Ruihe City Project, and Vanke Projects in Shanghai, Jiaxing, Ningbo, Suzhou, Wuxi, and Xuzhou. The construction area reached millions of square meters. The project was ratified by most clients, owners and contractors.

At present, we have a gypsum plaster mortar professional construction team of more than 650 people, equipped with professional construction management, quality management, safety management, and also 32 sets of German imported pulp shooting machines, which can fulfill the requirements of 8 to 10 large projects at the same time.

The high elastic asphalt pavement for steel bridge deck, which STEC independently researched and developed, has many advantages. First of all, the elastic recovery rate is nearly 100%, and can recover quickly after deformation, which can effectively solve the problem of steel bridge’s deformation well. Secondly, its anti-rut ability is good, which can greatly avoid the situation that normal asphalt may have rut in high temperature. Thirdly, the ability to anti-crack in low temperature is good, even in cold winter. Fourthly, the fatigue durability is strong, 300 times stronger than normal asphalt. Therefore, high elastic asphalt is the top choice for long life deck pavement.

This high elastic asphalt was first adopted for use in Shanghai Fengxian Fengpu Avenue Jinhui Port Bridge. We used double layer high elastic pavement during the construction, and adopted relevant water-proof system, such as bonding layer Caticoat, water-proofing layer Freshcoat, seam tape and aqueduct, which can separate the water and steel deck effectively to extend its life span. The bridge’s paving was finished at the end of July, 2014. Before that, the Nanjing Yangtze Rive Fourth Bridge adopted the GA+ high elastic asphalt pavement, and has been in normal operation for more than two years. So far, the entire pavement is completed, proving that this material and pavement method is very effective for the steel bridge deck.
