STEC Sponsored 2016 International Conference on Urban Infrastructure & Management Gather “Intelligence” to Change the City

Form 17^th to 18^th of November, “World Cities Day” and “The 18^th China International Industry Fair” series activity - 2016 International Conference on Urban Infrastructure & Management was held in Shanghai. This conference is sponsored by STEC, and it is a “Nobel Prize” level feast of infrastructure area. This conference is themed on “Building a Beautiful City, Creating an Ideal Life”. More than 600 specialists and scholars from 19 domestic and overseas cities of China, England, the Netherlands, Japan and Singapore attended this conference, gave their suggestions on difficulties which restrict city development and made joint efforts to explore more scientific and reasonable urban sustainable development road. This conference also received more than 120 papers, and the advance point of views, technologies and practical applications stated in these papers are expected to lead new direction of domestic and overseas urban infrastructure and management upgrading and change our urban life in the future.

Guo Yunchong, President of China Civil Engineering Society and former Deputy Minister of MoHURD, Huang Rong, Deputy Secretary General of Shanghai Municipal Government, Vice President of China Civil Engineering Society and former Executive Vice Chancellor of Tongji University, Li Guoyong, former Counsel of Basic Industries Department of National Development and Reform Commission, Liu Qianwei, Chief Engineer of Shanghai Housing and Urban-rural Construction Management Committee, Ying Minghong, President of Shanghai Society of Civil Engineering, Zhang Yan, Vice President of China Municipal Engineering Enterprise Association and Chairman of the Board of Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co. Ltd. and other leaders and guests attended this conference. The opening ceremony is hosted by Zhou Wenbo, President of the Municipal Engineering Branch of China Civil Engineering Society and CEO of Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co., Ltd.

The main forum of the conference centers on topic of “Global Sustainable Development Cities”, and Zhou Wenbo, President of the Municipal Engineering Branch of China Civil Engineering Society and CEO of Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co., Ltd., Li Guoyong, former Counsel of Basic Industries Department of National Development and Reform Commission, Ellen van Bueren, Deputy Editor of Emerald in Europe and Professor of Delft University of Technology, and Xiong Jian, Director of the Master Planning Division of Shanghai Municipal Planning and Land & Resources Administration, delivered their special reports titled Urban Development and Construction Management of Smart City, Urban and Transportation: Integrative Development, Smart City Infrastructure / Urban Development, and Moving Towards an Excellent Global City: Urban Master Planning of Shanghai(2016-2040) respectively. 

On the opening ceremony, Zhang Yan, Vice President of China Municipal Engineering Enterprise Association, President of Shanghai Municipal & Highway Engineering Trade Association and Chairman of the Board of Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co. Ltd., pointed out that, review the development history of Shanghai in recent 50 years, our infrastructure has been perfected continuously, urban management level has been keeping improved, urban context has been keeping inherited and city development has achieved outstanding success. However, with urban infrastructure grew from nothing and prosperity after great construction development, we need to take urban demand as the starting point and explore infrastructure construction and management from perspective of sustainable development; hence to realize further improvement and provide better solutions to build a smarter, safer, more convenient and efficient city and urban life. This conference aims to share more excellent achievements, improve industry and city development; and also aims to create a platform to deepen communications and exchanged between domestic and overseas peers, so that enterprises and specialists and scholars from all areas can make greater contribution to creation of better urban life in a wider and deeper level!

In his report, CEO Zhou Wenbo pointed out several points of views. First, smart city is the inexorable trend of city development and the key for urbanization should be found in technical revolution. Technology is the only hope to promote resolution of city diseases. Technical revolution accelerates the urbanization process and provides technical drive for continuous upgrading of city form and functions. Second, development of information technology provides new thinking for smart city construction. When smart city is built to a certain period, our information technology basis, informatization management basis, informatization infrastructure network and humanistic basis and data driven basis will become mature gradually, thus laying the foundation of smart city. Third, practice of data processing and informatization monitoring platform promote the development of smart technology. Take the informatization platform of STEC as an example, from shield tunneling construction expert system to shield tunnel remote information intelligent management system and shield tunneling construction control platform, they all show that practice of construction data processing and informatization monitoring platform promote the development of smart technology. These platforms have distinctive technology routes and promote development of intelligent technology indeed. Four, wide application of BIM technology drives big data management of urban infrastructure. In the future, BIM will prompt enterprises to establish enterprise-class and city-class center, and realize aid decision making through big data and promote management of urban infrastructure. Five, smart transportation leads smart city. Smart city also urges innovation of smart transportation industry and business mode, thus bringing development opportunities to this business area.

This conference set 5 sessions, 36 relevant domestic and overseas academicians and specialists shared latest achievements of their areas by centering on topics including “Urban Transportation Solution”, “Investment & Financing and O&M of Infrastructures”, “Smart City Construction and Management”, “Sponge City” and “Common Tunnel”. After this conference, we also organized visits on STEC Super-large Diameter Shield Tunnel Project of Shanghai North Cross Channel, Automatic-Assembly Bridge Prefabricated Factory and Intelligent Management and Control Platform of Shield Tunnel. 

During the conference, Launching Ceremony of “The Igreenbuy Sunshine Procurement Cloud Platform” was completed. This platform is a B2B platform of green building + Internet and a trail of industry + Internet. It will provide more convenient and efficient services and promote creation of market environment with openness, fairness, impartiality.
